A Lover, A Garden, A Poet – Celebrating the 115th Birth Anniversary of Poet Lưu Trọng Lư
Some legacies endure not only through artistic works, but also through family memories, stories passed down through generations, and the quiet ways in which affection continues to live on in our shared consciousness of a bygone era.
Celebrating the 115th birth anniversary of the late poet Lưu Trọng Lư (19 June 1911 – 19 June 2026), Quang San Art Museum, in collaboration with the poet’s family, presents the retrospective exhibition A Lover, A Garden, A Poet. The exhibition seeks to revisit his legacy not only as a defining figure of Vietnam’s New Poetry Movement, but also through the traces of the life behind the pen — a man who embraced and nurtured humanity as the guiding principle of his existence.
Inspired by the idea of Love as Creation, the exhibition approaches love not merely as a romantic emotion, but as a creative force capable of shaping lives and relationships. In Lưu Trọng Lư’s world, poetry did not arise from abstract concepts or intellectual constructs, but from the intimate experiences of everyday life: family bonds, loss and reunion, encounters and farewells, and the delicate resonances between one person and another. For him, poetry was the natural outcome of living, feeling, and loving.
Through manuscripts, letters, photographs, personal keepsakes, and archival materials preserved by his family over many years, A Lover, A Garden, A Poet opens a space where personal memory enters into dialogue with the collective memory of modern Vietnamese literature. More than a reflection on a literary legacy, the exhibition offers an opportunity for the memories of a father and grandfather to be shared with future generations, allowing heritage to be understood not as a fixed entity of the past, but as an ongoing process continually reimagined and recreated in the present.
