QSAM x Christie’s Auction House: Journey Of A Collector

Mr. Tira Vanichtheeranont

On March 14, 2024, a significant milestone in the development of contemporary art in Vietnam was marked as Quang San Art Museum proudly collaborated with Christie’s – one of the world’s most prestigious auction houses – to successfully host an Art Talk titled: “A Collector’s Journey – Hành trình của một nhà sưu tập.”
We were honored to welcome two experienced and passionate speakers:
- Mr. Dexter How – Vice Chairman, Senior Specialist at Christie’s Asia region. With over 20 years in the art field, he has made important contributions to connecting and developing the Southeast Asian art market. During the talk, he shared deep insights into modern collecting trends, especially the strong growth potential of Vietnamese artworks in the international auction scene.
- Mr. Tira Vanichtheeranont – a Thai collector with a collection of more than 2,000 Vietnamese paintings. Driven by passion and deep respect for Vietnamese fine art, he has spent many years researching, studying, and continuously spreading the value of Vietnamese painting worldwide. His stories during the talk were not only historical but also very personal and moving, reflecting a profound love for Vietnamese culture and art.
This was not just a regular art conversation but also the first event hosted by Christie’s in Vietnam, opening many opportunities for collaboration and dialogue between the domestic art market and international experts and collectors.

The Art Talk attracted a large attendance of collectors, artists, experts, and art lovers in Ho Chi Minh City. In the museum’s warm and professional space, guests not only listened to stories behind each collecting journey but also had the opportunity to interact directly with the speakers and connect with the dynamic art community.
The event’s atmosphere was one of sharing, learning, and connecting, aligning with the spirit Quang San Art Museum always pursues: a specialized, sustainable, and international art hub.
We sincerely thank Christie’s, the speakers, and all guests for contributing to making this an inspiring and professional conversation. Your presence and input are the driving force for Quang San Art Museum to continue its mission: preserving, connecting, and spreading the value of Vietnamese art worldwide.
We believe that through conversations like this, art is not only admired by the eyes but also deeply felt through memory, empathy, and the desire to preserve. Every story, every artwork, every collecting journey adds richness to the cultural memory map – where art is a bridge connecting generations, regions, and borders.
With the support of the art community, professional partners, and dedicated practitioners, we are confident that the journey to bring Vietnamese art further, more sustainably, and more confidently to the global stage will continue to be nurtured by meaningful, connecting, and spreading events like this. We look forward to welcoming you at future programs – where art is not only displayed but also heard and understood from many perspectives.
